About

Presented by Country Arts SA and Sydney Dance Company

Sydney Dance Company’s Frame of Mind is a wildly powerful double bill featuring the smash hit Wildebeest by South Australia’s own Gabrielle Nankivell and the multi award-winning Frame of Mind from Rafael Bonachela.

Bonachela’s Frame of Mind features a dramatic contemporary-classical soundtrack by Bryce Dessner (from American hit rock band The National), recorded by San Francisco’s virtuosic Kronos Quartet. Winner of all four categories for the 2015 Helpmann Awards including ‘Best Choreography’, ‘Best Dance Work’, ‘Best Male Dancer’, and ‘Best Female Dancer’ for its critically acclaimed premiere season.

Having premiered as part of Sydney Dance Company’s inaugural New Breed season, choreographic prodigy Gabrielle Nankivell’s eloquent Wildebeest showcases the power of dancers as individuals and strength en masse. Moody and animalistic, it’s backed by a stormy and industrial score by Luke Smiles.

Don’t miss this gripping evening of dance in its limited Australian season.

Adult Workshops

Have you ever wanted to try dance but feel like there’s no class for you?

This is a fun dance workshop for adults with little or no dance experience.
It will offer a unique opportunity to explore new ways to move your body and involve yourself in a creative exploration of Contemporary dance.

Leading this workshop is Choreographer and dancer Gabrielle Nankivell who is currently touring her work Wildebeest as part of Sydney Dance Company’s 2018 tour. This workshop is in the day of  the performance, so you can take her class and find out more about her upcoming work. Gabrielle will lead you through a series of guided movement improvisations to warm up the body and explore how movement is generated to create dance material for a performance.
