Artist Statement
I find inspiration in the narratives woven into the landscapes and people that share my life along the River in Loxton.
My chosen medium is oil paint as it allows me to paint wet in wet with ease.
The breathtaking beauty of the Murray River never fails to inspire me. I try to echo the vibrant hues of its cliffs, the rhythmic flow of its waters, and the diverse array of local birdlife and native flora that inhabit its banks.
Often my painting journey begins with sketches in acrylic paint or pen. Sometimes I just imagine the painting in my mind and start straight away on a large piece, otherwise it’s a small sketch to delve into my idea. Whichever way I begin, I complete the artwork back in the comfort of my studio.
I hope to evoke a sense of awe and appreciation for the array of flowers that dance in a breeze, and riverscape that ebbs and flows around us.
I am moved by the dawn of each day and the hope it brings; the flowers that appear delicate and beautiful but are tough and survive a variety of weather conditions; our hot fiery sunsets; a little boat pulled up to a bank; a face; my paint is the voice that explores the stories behind the everyday.
