Each August, South Australia celebrates visual artists with the annual South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival. This year, Tatiara District Council and the Walkway Gallery have joined the state-wide festivities with a unique exhibition by established Mt Gambier textile, fibre and yarn artists the Creatrices.
Bushland, Bull Ants & Bracken is inspired by Telford Scrub Conservation Park, just north of Mount Gambier SA. Regular visits during the last two years enhanced the appreciation of changes observed at different times of the year.
Use of a diverse range of textiles, fibres and yarns, together with visual elements of colour, line, shape, form and texture, capture pattern and rhythm of the bushland.
Traditional techniques, such as quilting, knitting, weaving, paper making, collage, basketry, embroidery, felting, printing, painting and dyeing, are used in contemporary context to create varied art wearable’s, visual art works and installations.
Bushland, Bull Ants & Bracken will officially launch on Friday August 1th at 6.30pm at the Walkway Gallery by Councillor Liz Goossens (Tatiara District Council). Everyone is welcome to attend.
Creatrices are running a workshop program in conjunction with this exhibition. For more information click here.
