Statewide Indigenous Community Arts Development (SICAD) visit Far West
SICAD representatives are currently travelling across the Eyre Peninsula visiting and consulting with Aboriginal artists and their communities.
Mr David Miller, Chairperson of Ananguku Arts and Culture Aboriginal Corporation is travelling with Mr. Iain Morton, Statewide Programs Manager, Ananguku Arts and Tony Collins, Project Manager (APY & North), Ananguku Arts.
The group commenced their visit with an informal meeting of artists in Port Lincoln on Monday 23 September before travelling onto Ceduna. They will continue their tour of the far west region until 6 October.
In Ceduna the visiting party will be joined by highly regarded Alice Springs contemporary landscape artist Wayne Eager.
Eager has lived in central Australia since 1992 far from Australia’s urban centres. Mr. Eager has previously visited Oak Valley in July 2010 to undertake painting workshops with Anangu artists as part of the Desert Oak project which was funded by a Country Arts SA Regional Partnerships grant.
During this year’s visit Mr. Eager will conduct workshops with Aboriginal artists in Western Eyre including at the Head of the Bight.
Mr. Iain Morton says “We are inviting Aboriginal artists to join staff members of Ananguku Arts and Country Arts SA to discuss their artistic development and opportunities. We encourage them to tell us what they want to achieve so we can find ways to assist them.”
