Expressions of interest are now open for Nebula 2023

Country Arts SA’s professional development program for visual artists, NEBULA, is now open. Up to eight artists from across regional South Australia will travel to Adelaide for three days of workshops, forums, talks and networking opportunities centred upon strengthening professional arts practice.

NEBULA is held during SALA Festival in August and aims to nurture and extend creative arts practices and build skills and knowledge that will help recipients take the next steps in their career. Previous years have programmed events such as writing workshops, gallery visits and curator talks, social media and online profile, artist and curator networking, and grants and funding.

Successful recipients will join up in Adelaide with the view to cultivate relationships between artists from South Australia’s regional areas, as well as with metro-based artists, gallery directors and curators.

2022 Nebula participant Julie Lloyd from Burra said the impact of meeting fellow artists and industry peers from across the state were invaluable. “We were exposed to professional, successful artists and business associates involved in the arts. What price do you put on that kind of exposure? It has also given us a foot in the door with some of these people and now up to us to push the door open,” she said.

NEBULA is held in Adelaide from 16 – 18 August during the 2023 SALA Festival and is programmed to coincide with key SALA events.

Country Arts SA Visual Arts Program Manager Lauren Mustillo said, “Nebula is an unparalleled program providing participants access to some of South Australia’s most esteemed arts professionals, respected artists and industry leaders. Over three-days participants will acquire the practical tools needed to sustain a thriving arts career, discuss opportunities for creative growth and have networking opportunities with peers from across the state for profound and lasting benefits.”

NEBULA is aimed at emerging and early-career artists and operates as part of wider professional development offerings supported by Country Arts SA, including the BREAKING GROUND award and CATAPULT mentorships (delivered in collaboration with Guildhouse).

Expressions of interest are open NOW and close Monday 5 June, 5pm. Attendance is FREE.
