Kondoli moves inland!

Whale watching moved inland when Kondoli relocated to Bordertown during the first week in December.

Created in 2012 as part of Just Add Water, the Regional Centre of Culture, Kondoli (the Ngarrindjer/Ramindgeri word for whale) is a magnificent inflatable storytelling space catering for up to 50 children at a time.

Kondoli was designed and created by the artistic team of SpinFX AustrAliA, Bob Daly and Kalyna Micenko, with artistic advice from Evelyn Roth.

We were forutnate to have Bob and Kalyna spend the week in Bordertown working on the final stages of the Tatiara Iconic Flag Project – which uses similar construction techniques as Kondoli.

To compliment Kondoli’s visit, the Bordertown Public Library staged a special interactive production of Marcia Vaughan’s family favourite ‘Wombat Stew’ for the town’s youngest residents, while Bordertown’s older students and community members were invited to special story telling (and information) sessions with local Aboriginal woman Marie Clarke.

It was a first, for both Marie and the local community to be involved in an event like this, and begins an important step in reconciliation for the Tatiara community.
