The Mid Murray Skate Jam held during Youth Week at Mannum utilised some of the new sound and lighting equipment recently purchased by Mid Murray District Council.
Local performers, Ryan Palme and Emma Schlueter entertained the 140 strong crowd on a chilly Friday night from the tray of a truck loaned from Males’ transport company.
The new gear will be available, for a modest fee, in the Mid Murray region and eventually beyond. Training will be required for operators and will be utilised by Regional Development Officers, through Music SA, to up skill people in regional areas through recognised units in the theatre technical stream.
The Mid Murray Coumcil’s Development Officer, Ms. Tess Minett, says the long term plan is to construct a mobile stage which can be used in non traditional places and spaces including outdoor sites – there are so many beautiful sites along the river.
It is anticipated the stage equipment will promote and encourage local performances and touring productions to visit the region. Beneifts will include training and employment opportunities plus improve presentation quality for all Mid Murray audiences.
