In April the Walkway Gallery in Bordertown will be launching the exciting exhibition For the Love of Drawing featuring a unique collection from the Nora Heysen Foundation.
South Australian artist Nora Heysen (1911-2003) is considered one of the outstanding Australian female artists of the twentieth century.
Her notable career spans seven decades, during which she painted some of Australia’s most outstanding self-portraits, became the country’s first female war artist, and was the first woman to win the prestigious Archibald Prize.
The exhibition will display many of her fine drawings, several for the first time.
Although best known for her paintings of still life and portraits, she also drew with great authority and sensitivity. For the Love of Drawing will feature drawings spanning a period of 75 years, from her earliest student exercises in Adelaide at 14 years of age to charcoal drawings at the age of 92.
