Roxby Jeweller Shines
‘Three’, an exhibition by Roxby Downs jewellery artist and sculptor Rachel Young, is set to close next week at Yarta Purtli Gallery in Port Augusta.
The exhibition features the stunning works of the Roxby Downs based artist and has been on display as part of the A Brush with Art series of exhibition throughout the Flinders Ranges.
Originally from Balaklava, Rachel began her journey as a jewellery artist as a young girl, stringing flowers, gumnuts and other objects together to form necklaces and adornments to be admired.
Inspired by the arid environment that surrounds her, much of Rachel’s work reflects the plant and bird life of her region or places that she has travelled with her family on their many camping adventures.
Port Augusta Arts Officer, Ellenor Day, said the exhibition is a fantastic collection of sculpture, jewellery and mixed media artworks. “Rachel is a university trained jewellery artist and designer but her exhibition is so much more than that.
“She has included photographs and other mixed media artworks that have inspired the designs seen in her jewellery pieces and complex sculptures. Fabulous enamel artworks arising from Rachel’s recent training in enamelling can also be seen in the exhibition,” she said.
The last day of the ‘Three’ exhibition is Saturday 26 October (closing at 1pm).
