The Clare Valley’s Courthouse Cultural Centre at Auburn was voted ‘Best Contribution to the Arts by a Regional or Community company (under $100,000) in South Australia at the SA Ruby Awards for the Arts at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
The annual Ruby Awards, presented by Arts SA celebrate the contribution to our State by the Arts in the areas of audiences, tourism, creativity, economy and artistic vision.
The Courthouse Cultural Centre at Auburn run by HATS Inc (Heritage Arts and Traditions) received the Ruby Award in the Community and Regional sector ahead of the Adelaide Festival Centre and The Adelaide Fringe. The judging panel were impressed with HATs achievements in establishing an arts centre with an exciting program of diverse and accessible arts events, utilising an important heritage building with a strong community approach to building ongoing and sustainable arts activity in a regional area.
Chairperson Cherie Harvey noted ” HATS Inc are delighted to receive the Ruby Award for regional and community achievement. We see the Auburn Courthouse as an exemplary model of how arts can be established and generated in regional areas. We are thrilled that the Ruby Awards panel have recognised the achievements of our organisation, which has done so much in such a short space of time”
The award will give the Courthouse Cultural Centre a real boost and help put us on the map showing that the Clare Valley has a distinctive and vibrant cultural identity. The Courthouse Cultural centre contributes to the Economy, the Community, The Creativity and the life of the Clare and Gilbert Valleys”.
Upcoming events at the Courthouse include the major event for 2013, The Clare Valley Carnival of Music on the 8 & 9 November which will feature an array of artists performing Blues, Folk, World Music, Acapella, Jazz and more.
