Acclaimed photographer and film maker, Mark Tipple, dove into the cool waters off Streaky Bay on the weekend of 15 and 16 March 2014 with his underwater cameras and 11 eager participants.
Local community members developed underwater photography skills, picked up professional secrets and dabbled in the science of underwater photography and water clarity in free workshops. Mark’s visit engaged participants in The Hydro+Graphy Project: where open-minds, open-water and photography harmonised.
The project went on to provide post production and photoshop sessions where participants were mentored in the editing and preparation of images. Each participant will present two framed images for display and sale at the exhibition. Additional unframed images will also be available for viewing and order.
From the outset Project Coordinator Lauren Karp has intended that the culminating exhibition will portray the story of the journey of participants including moving footage from behind the scenes at the workshops.
The project has been widely shared through an interactive fb page The-HydroGraphy-Project which has documented the project in a very visual way. This has received positive responses from a broader online community.
Community members, friends and family are invited to the opening night of the exhibition of the project, which celebrates the superb water clarity of the Streaky Bay region, which is truly an underwater photographer’s dream.
The exhibition tours in Streaky Bay during May and June featuring photographs from participants: Cabe Munneke, Steph Redden, Lewis McDonald, Marissa Hutchings, Simone Picken, Tobin Woolford, Liz McTaggart, Deneki Stewart, Harriet Appleby, Kayla Petty, Lauren Karp and Mark Tipple.
